Late Pleistocene paleosol formation in a dynamic aggradational microenvironment - A case study from the Malá nad Hronom loess succession (Slovakia)

چکیده
Abstract The geomorphological characteristics of the loess succession at Mala nad Hronom (Slovakia) mean that it provides a valuable opportunity for investigation differences in soil formation various topographic positions. Along with semiquantitative characterization paleosols (on basis physical properties, texture, peds, clay films, horizon boundaries), high-resolution field magnetic susceptibility measurements and sampling were carried out along four different sections profile. Samples luminescence dating also taken, order to establish chronostratigraphical position studied. comparison proxies revealed dynamic aggradational microenvironment same paleosol horizons located positions slope. Contrary expectation, developed local top or slope topographical did not display significant e.g. their degree development, nor curves. In case lower down slope, signs quasi-permanent sediment input could be recognized as being present early during itself. This would seem surpassed pedogenesis strengthened by climate last interglacial (marine isotope stage - MIS 5). Pedogenesis seems sustained renewed intense dust accumulation Late Pleistocene, 3, though compared 5, 3 favor pedogenesis. Despite general belief series formed plateau can preserve terrestrial records without erosion, this is so. Compared sequence affected erosional events position, quasi-continuous have preserved intact.

The Zmajevac loess-palaeosol succession (LPS) of the northeastern Baranja loess plateau is exposed along the southern slope of Bansko Brdo, on the western bank of the Danube River. The investigated 17.5-m-thick section shows 4 palaeosol, 1 loess-like and 6 loess horizons. Their integrative palaeoenvironmental analysis combines quantified data from the mollusc record, magnetic susceptibility, gr...
